3 Players The Green Bay Packers Might Cut After NFL Draft
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers underwent significant transformations to their roster during the NFL Draft, particularly addressing key positions such as safety, linebacker, and the offensive line.

With 11 selections in the draft and subsequent additions through undrafted free agency, the team made substantial moves to bolster its depth and talent pool.

One of the most notable changes occurred in the safety department, where the Packers revamped their lineup almost entirely. Among the new additions are free-agent acquisition Xavier McKinney, alongside draft picks Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, and Kitan Oladapo, joining the sole returning starter, Anthony Johnson Jr.

At linebacker, the Packers invested two of their top-91 picks in Edgerrin Cooper and Ty’Ron Hopper, further solidifying their defensive core. Additionally, the team added five offensive linemen to the roster, enhancing competition and depth along the crucial front line.

These roster enhancements have intensified the competition within the team, placing several players in jeopardy of losing their positions. Let’s take a closer look at who might be facing the heat after the 2024 NFL Draft.

Sean Clifford, Quarterback

Despite proving himself as a reliable backup quarterback, Clifford now faces a challenge from seventh-round pick Michael Pratt. While Clifford has showcased his abilities, Pratt’s potential and draft status make him a formidable contender for the backup QB role.

Royce Newman, Offensive Line

With the influx of new offensive linemen, Newman’s position on the team is uncertain. Struggling over the past seasons and with only one year left on his contract, Newman must demonstrate significant improvement to secure his roster spot amidst the increased competition.

Emmanuel Wilson, Running Back

Despite being the third running back on the roster last season, Wilson now faces stiff competition for the RB3 spot in Green Bay. With the arrival of Josh Jacobs and the drafting of MarShawn Lloyd, Wilson must outshine AJ Dillon in training camp to secure his position.

The Packers’ roster reshuffling has brought about a wave of talent and competition, putting several players on notice as they vie to retain their positions on the team.
